The good news is that most of these aren't true emergencies and can be easily managed at home until you can visit our Wilmington or Newark office. We want to keep your smile journey simple and worry free. Here are some easy ways to handle common issues:
Loose or Poking Wires
If a wire is irritating your cheek, a little orthodontic wax can offer quick relief. Simply roll a small piece and place it over the sharp area. You can also use the eraser end of a pencil to gently tuck a wire back into place.
Broken Brackets
If a bracket comes loose but stays on the wire, there is no need to worry. Use wax to cover it if it bothers you and avoid crunchy foods until we can see you. Just give us a call so we can schedule a quick repair.
Sores Inside the Mouth
It’s very common to have a little irritation when you first get braces or aligners. Rinsing with warm salt water is a simple process that helps you heal and feel better quickly.
Lost or Damaged Appliances
If your Invisalign® aligners or orthodontic retainers become damaged or go missing, contact us as soon as possible. If you have your previous set, wear those to keep your teeth from shifting while we help you get back on track.
